Central Cooperative Bank was registered by a decision of Sofia City Court. Initially the BNB Governing Council issued a license to CCB AD authorizing it to carry out banking activities on the territory of the country. The Bank’s founders are Central Cooperative Union, regional cooperative unions and more than 1100 cooperative organizations. At the beginning the Bank’s main mission was to contribute to the development of the co-operative system in Bulgaria. Going through different periods of development, today the Bank has established itself as a universal commercial bank.

The Bank is authorized to operate abroad. In July 1993, CCB AD became an associate member of the European Association of Co-operative Banks, based in Brussels.

CCB AD has acquired the status of a public company, thus becoming one of the two Bulgarian banks with shares traded on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange - Sofia.

Up to now, the following entities have been shareholders of CCB AD: CCU, Bulbank AD, SF Agriculture, Bank Consolidation Company (BCC), etc.

The shareholding of BCC AD of 32.77% was acquired through an auction by Chimimport AD, which became a major shareholder of Central Cooperative Bank AD.

CCB AD has been licensed by MasterCard Europe – a prestigious international card organization, to issue and accept Maestro and MasterCard international debit and credit cards.

CCB AD has been licensed as an agent for Bulgaria of the Western Union international money transfer system.

Central Cooperative Bank AD became a member of the International Cooperative Banking Association, members of which are more than 52 credit institutions from 36 countries.

CCB AD increased its capital from BGN 16,169,564 to BGN 32,338,128 by issuing new 16,168,564 shares with a par value of BGN 1 each. CCB Group Assets Management EAD - a company 100% owned by Chimimport AD – became the Bank's main shareholder.

The Bank became a full member of Visa International and since the beginning of 2006 it started offering the full range of Visa cards.

CCB AD decided to increase its capital by 50% and by the end of the year the Bank’s share capital amounted to BGN 48,507,186 and the equity capital was BGN 80,928 thousand.

CCB AD was authorized by Central Bank of Cyprus to open its first foreign branch in Nicosia.

CCB AD signed a second fixed-term syndicated loan agreement and from the initially announced EUR 11 million, EUR 27.5 million were raised from a total of 12 foreign banks. The organization was again entrusted to HSH Nordbank AG and Raiffeizen Zentralbank Osterreich AG.

The General Meeting of Shareholders of CCB AD decided to increase again the capital by another 50% and by the end of the year the Bank's share capital amounted to BGN 72,760,779.

With the accession of Bulgaria to the European Union, CCB AD acquired the status of a full member of the European Association of Co-operative Banks.

Opening of the first foreign branch of CCB AD in Nicosia, Cyprus.

CCB AD acquired Sileks Banka A.D. Skopje in Macedonia, which on 22 October 2008 was renamed to Central Cooperative Bank AD Skopje. At present, CCB AD holds 87.35% of the voting shares of CCB AD Skopje.

Central Cooperative Bank AD joined ISDA-International Swaps and Derivatives Association as a consumer. The contractual mediation was entrusted to Raiffeisen Zentralbank Oesterreich AG.

CCB AD became an indirect member of the SEPA payment system EBA STEP2 SCT.

CCB AD became a direct member of the Trans-European real-time gross settlement payment system TARGET2.

Bulgarian Credit Rating Agency assigned Central Cooperative Bank JSC a long-term credit rating: BBB, outlook: stable, and a short-term rating: А-2.

CCB AD ranked among the first ten banks by its asset book value according to the BNB classification.

Stater Bank AD, Kumanovo, Republic of Macedonia, merged with CCB AD.
